Over the years, MVLA has impacted the lives of thousands of youth soccer players.


MVLA is committed to developing strong, technically proficient soccer players who reach their potential both on and off the field. The caliber of athletes who have completed our program have earned MVLA national recognition, as our program has produced top players on both the national and international stage.


We are proud of our development philosophy and curriculum, focusing upon individual skills and teamwork. Our program produces excellent soccer players, with many alumni continuing their soccer journey at the college, professional, and international levels.


ALBERTIN MONTOYA

MVLA '93 • MVLA DOC • Bay FC Head Coach


Albertin, born in Cuba and grew up in Mountain View. Played club soccer for MVLA (along with his teammate MVLA Executive Director Joe Cannon). Their team won MVLA’s first National Championship in 1993.


Albertin played for the US national team in the U17 World Cup, he was part of the US U20 National Team and the US U23 Olympic Team. Albertin played collegiate soccer at North Carolina State and Santa Clara University. He played professional soccer in the MLS; he was a first round draft pick, fourth overall, when he was selected by the San Jose Clash (now the San Jose Earthquakes). 


Albertin’s coaching duties, in addition to MVLA, have included being the US U17 Youth National Team coach, the head coach for the Women’s Professional Soccer League WPS Champions FC Gold Pride, and the WPS All-Star Team Coach. Albertin was named Soccer America Women’s Coach of the Year and was a F.I.F.A. Women’s World Coach of the Year finalist. Albertin holds his USSF A License. He is currently the head coach of the NWSL’s Bay FC team.

JOE CANNON

MVLA '93 • MVLA Executive Director


Joe grew up in Los Altos Hills. He played high school soccer for Saint Francis, and led the team to the 1993 CCS title. Joe played for one club all ten years of his youth soccer career – MVLA – where he also won the USYSA National Championship in 1993 under coach Alberto Montoya.


Joe played collegiate soccer at UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara University. Joe was part of the U17 USYNT player pool and has two appearances for the United States Men’s National Team.


Joe played professional soccer for 16 years. He played in the MLS for the San Jose Earthquakes, the Colorado Rapids, the LA Galaxy, and the Vancouver Whitecaps. He also played a half season at RC Lens in the French Ligue 1.


Joe has many accolades, including Division I All-American for Santa Clara University, MLS Cup Champion with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001, Major League Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year awards in 2002 and 2004, 4-time Major League Soccer All-Star, San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame, Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes Team of the Decade in 2006, Team Humanitarian of the Year in both 2000 and 2008, US Men’s National Team for the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003, and induction into the Cal North (CYSA) Hall of Fame. Joe holds a USSF B Coaching License. 

ABBY DAHLKEMPER

MVLA '10 • UCLA '14


Raised in Menlo Park, Abby is a 3-time State Champion with MVLA. She was the 2009-10 Gatorade State Player of The Year and Parade All-American. At UCLA, she was Pac-12 Defender of the Year in 2013 and 2014, All-American in 2013 and 2014, Honda Sports Award winner, and helped lead UCLA to its first ever NCAA

National Championship in 2013.


Abby is a defender for Bay FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Internationally, Abby is a 2019 FIFA World Cup Champion and winner of a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She previously played for San Diego Wave FC (NWSL), Manchester City (FA Women’s Super League), and North Carolina Courage (NWSL). She was the 3rd overall pick by the Western New York Flash in the 2015 NWSL College Draft, and won her first NWSL Championship with the Flash in 2016. Following the Flash's relocation, she was named NWSL Defender of the Year in 2017 and won back to back league titles with NC Courage in 2018 and 2019.

MARGUERITTE AOZASA

MVLA '08 • Santa Clara '11


Margueritte was raised in Mountain View and played for MVLA Mercury under coach Albertin Montoya from 1999 to 2008. She was a three-time State Champion for Mercury and began her coaching career at MVLA as an ECNL coach for 10 years. She also represented the United States under-16 team in 2006. She was a four-year starter at Santa Clara University from 2008-11 playing at midfield and center back and serving as team captain from 2010-11.


As an assistant coach at Stanford from 2015-21, Margueritte coached the Cardinal to great success, including NCAA Championships in 2017 and 2019 and Pac-12 titles from 2015-19. Margueritte was hired in December 2021 as the sixth head coach in UCLA women’s soccer history and promptly guided her team to the program’s second NCAA Championship, and a school record-tying 22 victories while leading the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year. Margueritte became first rookie head coach and first woman of color ever to win the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer championship. Margueritte was voted the Pac- 12 Coach of the Year, becoming the first rookie head coach ever to win the honor.


Margueritte has her U.S. Soccer “A” Coaching License and is one of just four Asian American women currently serving as a head coach for a NCAA women’s soccer team.

TERESA NOYOLA

MVLA '08 • Santa Clara '11


Raised in Palo Alto, Teresa played for MVLA Mercury from 2004-2008 for Albertin Montoya, and was a 3-time State Champion with MVLA. Her many youth career awards include: Gatorade National Player of the Year and California Player of the Year (2008), 2x Parade Magazine National Player of the Year, NSCAA National High School Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2007), NSCAA All-Region and California Player of the Year and the NSCAA Youth National Player of the Year (2006), and three-time All-American (2005-2007).


At Stanford, Teresa was named NSCAA scholar athlete of the year and MAC Hermann Trophy winner (2011), 3-time NSCAA first-team All-America, Soccer America MVPs First Team, No. 1 in Top Drawer Soccer's National 100 rankings, NSCAA All-Pacific Region first team, Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, All-Pac-12 first team, NCAA College Cup Offensive MVP, and NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team.


She was selected No. 7 overall in the 2012 Women's Pro Soccer draft by the Western New York Flash, and was a member of the Mexican National Team that played in the 2011 World Cup, as well as a member of the U.S. Youth National Team U-16, U- 17, U-18, and U-20 age groups.

MVLA Soccer Club is consistently ranked by ECNL as a top-ten club in the country.
