    The MVLA Shooting Stars Program is open to boys and girls born 2018, 2019 and 2020 offering the best soccer after-school program for players starting their soccer journey. spring shooting stars Shooting Stars Academy Director MVLA San Jose coach Aliyah Jones has been coaching players of all ages for seven years. Aliyah’s background includes Division 1 collegiate experience at San José State University that featured two championships as a player and one as the Director of Operations for the women’s soccer program. Aliyah was a captain and player for Oakland Soul’s first inaugural season. Aliyah has been with MVLA San Jose since the beginning of 2024. In addition to her duties as the Shooting Stars Program Director, Aliyah is also the head coach of MVLA’s 2012 girls team and is the Director of Camps and Clinics for the program. Program Information Spring 2025 Shooting Stars: - 2018’s, 2019’s, 2020’s First Day of Shooting Stars: Monday, March 10th Spring 2025 Duration: March 10th - May 28th Cost: $400 for 12 weeks What is the philosophy of Shooting Stars? Our ball mastery sessions use skill-based games to promote individual time on the ball, real PASSION for playing soccer, and most importantly having FUN. What do I bring? It is recommended that players bring water. They are also welcome to bring a ball, but there will be plenty of balls provided at the field. What do I wear? Wearing cleats and shinguards under soccer socks is encouraged. Is financial assistance available for this program? MVLA provides a need-based financial assistance program.   • Jodi 1 | Mvla San Jose

    Jodi Washington Jodi is a California native who grew up in East San Jose, attending Berryessa Elementary and Piedmont Middle Schools. With no girls team at Piedmont Middle, she played for the boys side before heading to Independence High School where she was a 4-year Varsity player. Jodi played her club soccer for North Valley Eclipse and San Jose Thunder before finishing out her playing career at Cal. Having spent time at the youth regional and national team levels, Jodi’s work ethic and intensity are two key traits she brings into leading her teams and staff. She was a long tenured coach at: North Valley Youth Soccer League, Leland High School, Central Valley Youth Soccer League, the San Jose Earthquakes, built the girls side at San Jose Surf before finding a home with MVLA San Jose. Jodi is passionate about player development, building a lifelong love of the game, and creating personal bonds with all of her kids. The environment she creates is competitive but fun. Her inspiration and passion to coach comes from two places: high school coach Becky Spina and former player Hannah Welker who tragically lost her life at the age of 12 while playing for Jodi. Between 5am and 8am, you’ll find Jodi with her pitbulls Merlot and Hendrix juggling between the Peloton bike, Tread, and PL or LaLiga matches. From 8a-4p she’ll be found attempting to change the status quo at her tech company. When the sun sets, you’ll find her on the pitch. She and her husband Jason have been married for ~30 years and have two kids Kai and Maile. Jodi holds her National "B" License, serves as Executive and Girls Director at MVLA San Jose, Diversity Champion at MVLA Soccer Club, and Co-Chairs the Black Coaches and Football for All Committees for NorCal Premier League.

  • Victor 1 | Mvla San Jose

    victor bernardez Victor was born in La Ceiba, Honduras. He began his professional soccer career in 2001 with the Motagua Sports Club in Honduras and played for the Honduran National Team in two World Cups. In 2012, Victor signed with the San Jose Earthquakes where he played for 6 years before retiring in 2017. In January 2021 Victor was honored with a nomination into the MLS Hall of Fame. Victor has had a love of futbol for as long as he can remember. That love ignited a passion and that passion is what fueled his mindset. Through years of hard work and dedication, Victor achieved his dreams. Those qualities used to achieve his dreams are the same qualities he brings as a coach when training his players. And it is those qualities that not only lead to success on the field, but off the field as well. The transition from professional soccer player to coach was a natural transition for him and what better place to coach than with young developing players. Victor believes that by training athletes to improve their physical endurance and technique they become players capable of far more than they can imagine. Every athlete and every team is different and as a coach Victor is able to pivot and adjust training in a way that helps the team and the player. Victor enjoys working out each morning and spending time with his family. During the week he spends as much time as he can with his wife and daughters Ananda and Megan. He enjoys his time training one on one with players and then hitting the field with his teams to train some more. Victor holds his National "B License and is always eager to learn more.

Fall 2023 Volunteer Fee Reimbursement Request Deadline is December 1, 2023. If your player is returning in Spring 2024, a credit will be issued to your Fall 23/Spring 24 invoice. If your player is not returning for the Spring 2024 season, you will receive a refund. All refunds will be processed after December 4. Spring 2024 Volunteer Fee Reimbursement Request Deadline is June 15, 2024. If your player is returning in Fall 2024, a credit will be issued to your Fall 24/Spring 25 invoice.     Spring 2025 5V5 LEAGUE Let's get this spring season started right with camaraderie, community, and spirited competition.... Registration is now open for the MVLA San Jose Spring 2025 5v5 League. This 8 week program is a fantastic opportunity for players born 2012 through 2019 to engage in a fun developmental soccer program. Program Details Timeframe: Fridays, March 28th - May 16th, 6pm-8pm Teams will be selected at random based on player birth years (no friend requests will be accepted). Registration: Open to boys and girls born 2012-2019 Equipment: Players should bring/wear soccer gear (shin guards, soccer cleats and or turf shoes, water, and soccer a ball) Note : This is also an opportunity for players to get evaluated by our competitive coaching staff. What to Expect MVLA San Jose’s Spring 2025 5v5 League will focus on skill development, ball control, game understanding, fostering a love for the sport, and a whole lot of fun. Each week, players will enjoy a structured training session led by our experienced, licensed coaching staff who emphasize fun and learning. Players will be split into teams and play in a series of 5v5 matches, providing an opportunity for players to apply their skills in a game environment, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship Game Format: 10- 12 minute tournament games played weekly at The Park San Jose. Team Selection: Teams will be randomly selected based on birth years. Boys and girls will play on the same teams providing a dynamic playing experience for all. Coaches: These mini-tournament matches will be led by a small group of our competitive coaching staff and assisted by high school players. Match Time Slots: Games will be played Friday evenings March 28th, 2025 - May 16th, 2025 starting at 6pm - 8pm at The Park San Jose.   • Maile 1 | Mvla San Jose

    Maile Washington Born and raised in San Jose, California, Maile started her playing career at the age of 6 with the North Valley Flyers. That team morphed into the San Jose Thunder where she played from 7-12 years of age until the team disbanded 2007 after the passing of her teammate Hannah Welker. After a short stint at Central Valley and Juventus, Maile played for MVLA SC under Coach Seth Alberico. She was also a 4-year Varsity Player at Presentation High School. Her senior year, Maile tore her labrum and decided to pursue a career in medicine. Once she hit Organic Chemistry at University or Oregon however, she switched her major to Psychology. Maile continued to show her passion for the game by playing intramurals at UO until she graduated in 2014. Maile loves working with our youngest age groups and is passionate about them developing a quality first touch. Having Seth Alberico as her coach instilled a desire to love the game and have fun. Today, he remains her #1 inspiration and friend. Maile possesses her USSF 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 licenses and is currently pursuing a Masters in Sports Psychology. In her spare time she loves spending time with her dogs Merlot and Hendrix, working out, and brunching with her friends and family.

    GIRLS TEAMS The MVLA girls program is focused on the proven player development approach that has earned MVLA and its players a strong reputation for their skill, teamwork and overall character. HOW TO JOIN 27 State Championships 20+ Youth National Team Players 3 National Championships Girls Premier Leagues The girls program is guided by Jodi Washington, Director of Coaching and Executive Director as well as Technical Director Mark Landefeld. The Girls program includes competitive teams that play NorCal Premier and Cal North Soccer Leagues. The primary focus of a successful soccer program will be the individual player and their families. The primary focus of soccer coaches, teams and clubs will be the development of children as people first and players second. Individual player development will be a club's primary focus and team success a secondary but important goal. NPL believe the NorCal Premier Soccer League offers a league supporting the players, parents, coaches and clubs in this endeavor. The mission of Cal North is to serve all children and our communities by providing opportunities that allow each child to grow, learn, mature and succeed by becoming productive adult members of society through the development, promotion, and offering, regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin and/or ability, comprehensive community based leagues that offer a complete range of youth soccer opportunities for all children of all ages and abilities.
